Capsule Geology

The George lake area is primarily underlain by a series of volcanic rocks and intrusions. The volcanic rocks consist mainly of dacites and dacitic andesites which are likely part of the Upper Cretaceous Kasalka Group. This package is intruded by dioritic rocks of the Bulkley Plutonic Suite. Geological figures in Assessment Report 34439 show the George Lake Lineament to be bounded on the south by diorite and porphyritic andesite and on the north mainly by tuff breccia and lapilli tuff.

The George Lake Vein occupies a topographic low known as the George Lake Lineament and is therefore obscured by overburden. The lineament is about 1100 metres long and is sub-parallel to the No. 3 Vein and about 700 metres to the northeast of it. The vein has been intersected underground by the Bulkley crosscut and has been the subject of limited underground and surface drilling in that area. The remainder of the lineament has not been systematically explored.

In 1972, Frontier Explorations did EM survey, as well as percussion drilling and 457 metres of diamond drilling on George Lake Lineament Vein. In hole NGVF-5, Frontier reported sporadic mineralization to a depth of 259 metres in an area below the George Lake lineament. Additional diamond-drill holes completed by Frontier in 1972 to the north and south of NGVF-5 confirmed the presence of a series of apparently discontinuous veins below the lineament extending along strike for at least several hundred feet. Diamond-drill hole H 4 plunging 45 degrees southwest intersected a vein in the interval between 33.2 and 34.7 metres which assayed 116.57 grams per tonne silver, 4.58 per cent lead and 7.64 per cent zinc (Geology, Exploration and Mining in BC 1972, page 368).

In 2011, New Nadina Explorations Limited conducted ZTEM and Quantum 24 geophysical surveys. The aeromagnetic and electromagnetic survey covered 708.4 lines-kilometres and covered all mineral occurrences on the Silver Queen property including: the Silver Creek (Wrinch) (093L 002), Camp/Portal (new), Chisholm (093l 216), George Lake (new) and Cole (093L 162) systems and the Itsit porphyry (new).

Refer to Silver Queen (093L 002) for related geological and work history details.
